What a free AI audit can reveal about your business workflows

Every business I have looked at has hidden time sinks. Tasks that eat up hours every week without anyone really noticing. An AI audit is about finding those tasks and showing you how AI can handle them instead.

We offer a free AI audit to any business that is curious about what AI could do for them. No obligation, no sales pitch. Just an honest look at where the opportunities are. In this article, I want to explain exactly what that involves and what we typically find.

What is an AI audit?

An AI audit is a structured review of how your business currently operates, with a focus on finding tasks that AI could do faster, cheaper, or better. Think of it like an energy efficiency assessment, but for your time instead of your electricity.

We look at the tasks your team does every day and ask a simple question: could AI do any of this?

The answer, in almost every case, is yes. Usually more than people expect.

What do we actually look at during an audit?

We focus on five key areas:

  1. Repetitive tasks. Anything your team does the same way more than once a week. Data entry, report formatting, sending standard emails, updating spreadsheets. These are the low-hanging fruit.
  2. Content creation. Does your business write emails, social media posts, proposals, descriptions, or reports? AI can draft most of these in seconds, leaving your team to add the personal touch.
  3. Information management. How does your team find information? Do people spend time searching through documents, emails, or shared drives? Tools like NotebookLM can make your company knowledge instantly searchable.
  4. Customer communication. How do you handle enquiries, FAQs, and routine correspondence? AI can help respond faster and more consistently.
  5. Decision support. Does your team spend time analysing data, comparing options, or researching? AI can process information much faster than a human and present clear summaries.

What do you typically find?

Every business is different, but there are patterns I see again and again:

  • 5 to 15 hours per week of staff time being spent on tasks AI could handle or significantly speed up. That is the range for a typical small business with 5 to 20 employees.
  • Content bottlenecks. Someone in the business is spending hours writing things that AI could draft in minutes. Marketing emails, job descriptions, meeting summaries, process documents.
  • Duplicated effort. Multiple people answering the same questions, writing similar emails, or recreating documents that already exist somewhere in the business.
  • Manual reporting. Someone pulling numbers from different systems, putting them into a spreadsheet, and writing a summary. This is one of the easiest things to automate.
  • No use of AI at all. This is the most common finding. Many businesses have not tried any AI tools yet. The opportunity is huge.

When Paul and I audited our own businesses, we found over 10 hours per week of automatable tasks. We wrote about exactly what we automated and how in our automation case study.

How does the audit process work?

It is straightforward. Here is the step-by-step:

  1. You fill in our contact form or book a discovery call. Tell us a bit about your business and what you are curious about.
  2. We have a 30-minute chat (in person if you are in the North East, or online). We ask about your day-to-day operations, your team's workflow, and where time feels wasted.
  3. We review and analyse. Based on our conversation, we identify the top opportunities for AI in your business.
  4. We send you a short report with our findings. This includes specific recommendations, estimated time savings, and suggested tools. No jargon, just clear actions.

The whole process takes about a week from first contact to receiving your report. And it costs you nothing.

What happens after the audit?

That is entirely up to you. Some businesses take our recommendations and implement them on their own. That is absolutely fine. The report gives you enough detail to get started.

Others ask us to help them implement the changes. That might mean:

  • Running a half-day workshop to train your team on the AI tools we recommended.
  • Working with you on a 1:1 consultancy basis to set up automations and workflows.
  • Providing ongoing monthly support as you embed AI into your daily operations.

There is no pressure and no hard sell. The audit is genuinely free, and we believe the value it provides speaks for itself. If you want our help after that, great. If not, you still walk away with actionable insights.

Who is the audit for?

The audit works best for:

  • Small businesses with 2 to 50 employees who want to work smarter.
  • Business owners who have heard about AI but are not sure where to start.
  • Teams that feel stretched and want to free up time for higher-value work.
  • Any industry. We have seen opportunities in manufacturing, retail, professional services, education, hospitality, and more. AI is not just for tech companies.

If you are based in Northumberland or the North East, we can come to you in person. For businesses anywhere else in the UK, we do everything remotely.
